Native code generators will be able to handle this and provide a richer more robust user experience. I look for the app model to continue for the forseeable future as innovation trumps standardization.

The Android marketplace has a large number of apps, but only a fraction of them appear to be optimized for the tablet. I also tend to believe that tablets are now and will always be a niche product. For general consumer use, you still need to carry either a phone or (to a lesser extent) a laptop as a companion to a tablet.
